Cocotte Restaurant and Bar

A few of us gathered at Cocotte to celebrate Corinne's birthday one lazy Friday. It is located at Wanderlust Hotel and was quite surprised when Co suggested going there since it's been a place I've been wanting to check out as well. The last time we wanted to make reservations, they were ALL PACKED. Like you probably have to make bookings 2 weeks in advance but possibly due to holiday season at that time as well.

The items on the menu are pretty limited and the portions of each item may vary. For example, you could order an item for 2-3 people or 4-5 people as well. Cocotte prizes itself on being a communal dining restaurant. We wanted to book for a dinner placing on Christmas 2 years ago and the lady was explaining to me about the whole concept of communal dining. It should be pretty fun during Christmas as there will be a long dining table where strangers come together to dine and pass food around the table. It's a very festive gesture like how we all see Thanksgiving being celebrated in tv series.

Very nicely displayed cutlery set.

The interior of the restaurant. Very rustic and cosy with a touch of French flair.

Photos of us before we dug into the food. The food generally takes about 20minutes to half an hour to be prepared so it's best to order early.

I love bread <3

First up, we got the Poulet Roti which is one of Cocotte's Signature dishes.

It is only available for dinner daily except tuesdays, which I'm guessing that it's not available in their lunch menu. It is a whole hormone free chicken, marinated for 2 days and roasted with fresh herb butter. Served on the side with gravy, roast baby potatoes and spring vegetables. It comes in a 2-3 people portion and that is the only portion size available for this dish.
$60

It comes plated very nicely on a wooden serving board and I love presentations like such.

The chicken meat was very tender and hormone free chickens just mean good news for me since I'm not supposed to be consuming that much chicken in the first place as chickens normally do get insulin injections in them to make them fat and juicy. However, hormone free chickens are free from such injections. The flavours of the herb butter was infused very nicely into the chicken and it was extremely aromatic. It went very well with the baby potatoes and the vegetables which consists of french beans and peas! I'm the lucky one on the table who gets to eat the peas because none of them liked peas. I'm not in love with peas but I'm generally okay with their texture.

Next up was the Roast Pork Collar, also one of their signature dishes.

The pork collars are cooked in a creamy Dijon mustard sauce and served with brussel sprouts amandine, garlic potatoes and forest mushrooms. It was a whole pot of pork goodness! I really liked it alot because it was so creamy but verging on being slightly too oily. The meat was very soft and when you eat it with the mustard sauce, the entire piece of pork literally melts in your mouth. Heaven! Recommended for this to be shared among a few people as it tends to get slightly je lat after a while.

This dish comes in different portion sizes. We got the medium one, also meant for 2 - 3 people at $98.

One last photo before I dug into the food!

For desserts, we thought hard and long about what to order. In the end, Corinne decided to go for two of their individual desserts instead of getting the dessert platter. It was 1 for 1 dessert that day so we were spoilt for choices! Basically, if you order the dessert platter, you get a selection of homemade desserts to share with your friends at $30 per platter and since it's 1 for 1, you get 2 platters! How awesome is that. We got slightly jealous when we saw the next table ordering the platter which consisted of a little of everything. So I'd say, if you were thinking of giving Cocotte a visit, do try out their dessert platter!

First for desserts was the Apple Frangipani Tart, $14.

The tart base was topped off with poached gaia apples baked in a rum flavored almond filling. I LOVE THIS! It was amazing and the tart base was too perfect and crisp. The apples were really sweet and the almond filling did add a bit of extra flavor to the overall apple tart. Would order this any other day!

We also got the Crepe Suzette, $18.

It consisted of homemade crepes with caramel orange sauce and flambĂ©ed with Grand Marnier. This one I didn't like that much but Co, Xw and Wl really liked it. There was a slight tinge of vodka in the orange sauce. Maybe it was just me but I found the sauce slightly too overpowering and sweet for my liking.

It was a nice and happy meal at a cosy restaurant and there was live music as well by a local singer. She does really great renditions of some covers. If pictures were to speak a thousand words, then a video would possibly speak a million words. Here's a video I made for Co's birthday. Enjoy!

J claims my video looks very secondary school-ish which I'm very upset about. VERY SECONDARY SCHOOL MEH! But in all honesty, I got the video together in less than an hour so that's a feat! Anyway, first half of video mostly showcasing Hamburger staying over at my place for a night. If you're not interested in that, you should scroll right to the middle of the vid for that day's Vlog.

A few more photos of us playing with Hamburger at Bugis.

That's all! Have a great mid-week everybody (:
