Thoughts

Mom just got us a spanking new air-con in each of our rooms and I absolutely LOVE IT. I haven't had a change of air-con system in the last 18 years. That's how long I've been living in this crib of mine for and I love it so much I will be absolutely heart-broken to leave it one day. I LOVE MY ROOM. I don't actually think people consider my home as a dream home but I do.

Late night thoughts: I don't exactly think I'm a very secretive person. I just choose the people I want to share my life stories with very carefully. I strongly believe that 'You don't have to tell everyone everything. You should tell specific people specific things that pertain to them'. One of the few wisest advice I've given to myself I must say lol.

Kissing Nugz and Pancake goodnight and I'm off to bed! Sleeping with air-con for the first time in months. In any case, sleeping in air-con's not exactly great for you anyway. Need to slap on some moisturizer.

Gurney Drive Penang Food

A month ago, J and I went to Gurney Drive to have Penang food! At first, I was like *meh* it's Penang food in Singapore, how good could it be? and since it was in faraway land Ang Mo Kio, J and I had to travel all the way there to have a shot at their food haha. J bought quite a lot of groupon vouchers for this restaurant and we didn't really thought of using it until it was going to expire.

Him staring intently at the menu

We actually came back 2 separate days to use up the vouchers cos the food was unexpectedly cheap and it was impossible to eat so much food in one seating anyways.

For starters, we had their Penang Rojak $4.20.

It was a refreshing mixture of fresh fruits and vegetables tossed in their very own special prawn paste and you can request for it to be non spicy if you want to. Why would you eat rojak non-spicy anyway! This was SO GOOD. J claims it's the best rojak he has ever eaten. I honestly don't eat everything in a rojak when I order one. Yeah you guessed it right, I only dive in for the youtiaos LOL. But the sauce is seriously awesome. There's definitely something special in the sauce because it really whets your appetite and make you yearn for more.

If you're a big fan of Rojak, you gotta try this! It was so good, we came back on our 2nd visit and ordered it too.

Penang Hokkein Prawn Noodle $6.20

This prawn noodle is super value for money and I'll tell you why. It is a traditional hokkien prawn noodles that consist of both yellow noodles and bee hoon simmered till perfection. The dish also contains succulent huge prawns, pork ribs, fish cakes, bean sprouts and kangkong! So many ingredients in 1 prawn noodle! The soup is a special prawn-based soup made from the chef's secret recipe. This prawn noodles is also available in Premium Crayfish Prawn Noodles at $10.90.

Im not too sure on my take of this prawn noodles. I'm personally not a fan of bee hoon but it was a good change to have 2 different types of noodles in a big bowl of prawn noodles. The prawns were good. The thing that makes me undecided is the soup base. It's a very special soup base that is not quite like the soup base of prawn noodles in your normal coffee shops. It might be because of the chili added into it but I'm not sure about that. I think I have tried prawn noodles with thicker and richer prawn-based soup. But maybe it's just me.

Premium Seafood Fried Kway Teow $9.90

There is also the normal Fried Kway Teow at only $6.90 but we ordered the premium one for added prawns, squids and cockles! Also in the dish was chinese sausages, bean sprouts and egg in the chef's own creation of special sauce as well. (why so secretive chef!) This is apparently very popular, as it says on the menu, and now I really know why. IT IS SO FRIGGIN TASTY! This is possibly the best Fried Kway Teow I've had in my life. No kidding. It is slightly spicy and everything is sooo fragrant and delicious. We literally licked this plate clean.

This premium seafood fried kway teow is definitely a MUST TRY.

I had this on the second visit. It is Bandung with Chin Chow $2.90. I love Bandung and this was really refreshing especially with the chin chow bits. We also ordered the Gurney Iced Teh $2.20 and the Jackfruit juice on our previous visit. They serve a range of juices and the jackfruit juice is supposed to help aid the digestive system in our bodies.

Penang Curry Chicken with Rice $5.90

This is probably the worst item we've ordered on the menu. I felt so sad that I ordered it and it wasn't nice ): People who know me will know that I'm a huge fan of Curry chicken and Japanese curry. My favourite Chinese curry chicken of all time is the Lai Lai Curry Chicken! OMG it's so good! This Penang Curry Chicken was just MEH. It wasn't even good :/ The curry was really diluted and tasted really weird actually. I didn't like it at all but still tried to eat some if not it's quite a waste of money.

Happy people waiting for food.

In succession of the epic Penang Fried Kway Teow (scroll up to view) we had, we also ordered the Penang Malay Mee Goreng $6.90! It is a famous Malay dish consisting of yellow noodles stir-fried with fresh prawns, squids, fish cakes, bean sprouts and beancurd in a tasty sweet sauce.

Tasty sweet sauce is definitely positive because the sauce was so good and I couldn't stop eating it :/ If you try the kway teow and love it, you would also love this! Or if you want a crazy epic meal, you could order both the kway teow and this! I'm sure you and your dining partner-in-crime will not regret this choice! It's so good you'll probably be debating as to which dish is better. I believe this comes in a premium version as well but we ordered the normal one.

YUMMY!

Last but not least, we ordered the Grilled Stingray $7.90. It is a succulent stingray grilled in special homemade sauce. I remembered this as being pretty good as well but definitely no where as delicious tasting as the kway teow and mee goreng. The portion for this dish isn't huge but at $7.90, I wasn't complaining. The portion is definitely feasible if you're eating alone and want to have some stingray as well.

I would say overall that the food at Gurney Drive is really value for money and inexpensive for the quality of food you're getting! Definitely try the Fried Kway Teow and Malay Mee Goreng and skip on the Curry Chicken. Go have yourself some Penang food now in the heartlands of Singapore! (cheaper than flying to Penang) They have outlets at Ang Mo Kio, Suntec and Changi Airport T3. We didn't go to the Suntec one as the Groupon voucher only allow for us to dine in at Suntec between 3-6pm while the Ang Mo Kio one didn't have any restrictions. It's about a 5min walk from AMK Mrt Station.

Robovites

For some of you out there, I believe you will remember this when you were a kid. They are VITA Robovites! Basically they are a bottle of multi-vitamins for kids and they are shaped like robots. (how cute is that!) The vitamins come in 3 natural flavours - Strawberry, Orange and Grape. My favourite being the strawberry (:

Very recently, I got my Mom to buy them for me just for fun lol. I really wanted to start myself on some vitamin tablets and all so we were at GnC looking at vitamins and I spotted my favourite robo tablets! Had to get them! I think I'm just obsessed with reminiscing about the past. Didn't used to like eating them when I was a kid because my mom made it a point for my brother and I to have a tablet every day. Routine activities doesn't sit well with me so I got sick of them. It's like me and half-boiled eggs. I had to eat them EVERY SINGLE DAY for breakfast and then one day, I just decided I was through with eating half-boil eggs and went for a long (year-long) hiatus.

Each Robovites tablet is packed with Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E, Folic acid, Nicotinamide and Chelated Zinc. Since it's a kids' vitamin, it's basically meant for kids 2 years and above and a bottle contains 60 tablets.

2 months of Robovites here we go!

Pique Nique

Spent a quiet afternoon having Brunch at Pique Nique. Have wanted to try out some items on their menu for a while so I've decided to start out with their brunch items. Shall move on to their burgers and sides the next trip.

Pique Nique at Taka has taken over the lone spot where Mcdonalds used to be. I think they've recently franchised to include one at Jcube if I'm not wrong. It's a very quaint place with nice girly decor which I adore.

Their cappuccino $5 is not bad and I would say the aroma is quite fragrant as well. I'm not a very picky coffee drinker so as long as there's a decent shot of Espresso in the coffee, I'M GOOD. Coffee makes the world go round.

Cais and I both got the Classic Eggs Benedict $12. It comes with an English muffin, Paris ham, 2 poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and Pique Nique's fries.

It's definitely pretty unusual for Eggs Benedict to come with fries so that's a first. The portions are quite decent, especially incorporating that much starch in the dish. I would say that the hollandaise sauce is really great! Slightly tangy but not too thick as well, just the right consistency. Runny egg yolks - check! I think the ham they use is probably normal picnic ham so nothing too great about that. But overall, the eggs were good.

Nut's Birthday at Zouk

OOTD - Leopard dress from Topshop & Handbag from Charles and Keith

I really like this dress that I got from Topshop's sale a while back. It has a nice neutral color gradation and a pop of orange color. There's a lace overlay that cinches the waist. Absolutely adore my handbag as well and it's only when I started using it more often that I find it an absolute steal. It has a nice look and feel to it and there are SO MANY COMPARTMENTS. It's friggin awesome. The interior of the bag is also polkadotted in purple.

Anyway we had Mother's day dinner at One north with my family members. Ate until I was so bloated. Charisse introduced me to this awesome game called igobeat and I've just downloaded it on my dad's ipad and think I'm addicted to it. Have new found respect for this game that I see people playing in the Arcade and have no idea how in the world to play it.

Josh got a table at Zouk Members to celebrate Nut's birthday! (:

I got jealous and wanted a hug photo too. Somehow, they seem more lovey dovey than me LOL

Zhang Yao Dong, the actor, was sitting at the table beside us and I was a bit star-struck LOL.

Subsequently when the night ended, we exit Zouk to find out it was POURING like mad. Ended up running in the rain to grab a cab at the main road instead of joining the queue and waiting in line. Super dramatic moment when a really drunk J literally swept me off my feet and carried me onto the road whilst running and tried to flag a cab with me laughing non stop in his arms. The people at the bus stop must think we're mad HAHA. <3
