Jurong Bird Park

I can't recall when was the last time I actually visited the Jurong Bird Park, despite the fact that it's so near my place. It was probably the time where I had to fill up my Young Ornithologist Card when I was in primary school so that I can collect the Science badge for it.

 

Had to incorporate some bird-y prints in my outfit to go to the birdpark (:

I love penguins! I love how awkward and quirky they are.

 

Look at all the sexy flamingoes. I think flamingoes are the sexiest birds alive.

Didn't bring any bread to feed the swans.

Pelican feeding time! These pelicans are seriously good-for-nothings and will only come when there is food. When there is no food, they just fly away and can't be bothered about you!

This pelican is super act-tough. It just stands on the log and expects fish to be thrown into its mouth. It doesn't even bother to fly anywhere to catch them. BUM.

This is the prettiest pelican I have ever seen.

This emu is extremely narcissistic. It kept posing for my camera.

We went for the bird show and saw lots of birds flying around.

 

Kings of the Skies show

I thought it was a new flavour and got super excited, before realising that it just means that we are allowed to pick various flavours and pack it into the pint.

Lovebirds and their love nests

We saw this little bird on the way across the bridge. I'm not sure if it's hurt or couldn't fly because it didn't move or flinch even when I tried to touch its feathers.

 

I was quite impressed to see a huge waterfall in the middle of the bird park. No idea why, but I couldn't really recall there being one in the first place.

Hahaha. Love this photo! We are back at the Emu pen. The emu's red eyes are staring right into my camera.

 

Please look at how cute they are looking at each other haha. We were guessing that this ostrich must be a female because it has such long eyelashes!

 

These are the skeletons of the now-extinct Elephant Ostrich and its egg on the right. The egg is probably 50 times larger than a normal chicken egg.

I wish we had visited the various aviaries first because I had the most fun in them. The birds were allowed to fly freely in them and I loved the lorrys (a kind of bird) aviary best! They were so hyperactive and you were allowed to feed them!

A colorful lorry! So adorable right. The best part was that they aren't afraid of humans at all. We didn't get to stay in this aviary for long as they were about to close for the day.

We also didn't manage to visit the owl enclosure! No... ): But I got to see the owls at the King of the Skies show though, just not in their enclosures. So I decided to take a photo of the snowy owl, made famous by Harry Potter! I have always had a thing for owls, mainly because graphic owls and owl prints are too adorable. In the above photo, you can see the park attendants getting ready to go home.

Overall, I think it was a great experience visiting the bird park again although sometimes you see loads of dried up bird shit on the ground and you get worried if some may land on your head. If you haven't been to the bird park in ages, you might want to consider paying it a visit after the new area is up. They are setting up an area for a mini-petting zoo if I remembered correctly.
