Since it was summer and a great way to throw on your swimsuits and hit the water, I thought a short trip to Phuket would be the ideal getaway. I've never been to Phuket before but I've heard there were lots of water sports there you could enjoy and I need to be prepared to fork in dollars to try out the various water sports.
It was also my first time taking a flight out from Singapore's budget terminal and it is seriously budget. As in, the interior is budget, even the gates are budget. It was almost like boarding a domestic flight out of the country. We reached the airport and it was a 1 hour drive to our resort at Patong Beach area. We stayed at Deevana Resorts and opted for an upgrade to our rooms so that we could have a jacuzzi pool in our room. We only found out that the jacuzzi was actually in the view of the public and it was facing the swimming pool and the water in it was colder than the pool so we usually wound up jumping into the pool instead. Nevertheless, it was pretty good resort to stay in. The room was extremely spacious and I had alot of space to conquer in the room.
We had our first lunch in Phuket at some random roadside stall and their Tomyum soup was extremely potent. Constantly felt like my tongue was on fire. They also had very old-school coke bottles which I'm sure everyone should be very acquainted by now in other countries other than Singapore.
Patong Beach |
There were many holes in the sand which I later came to realise are dug by crabs. In fact, there were many tiny little crabs scurrying around the entire beach! They are somewhat transparent and all you can see are shimmers of light in the sand when a crab is trying to move around. I get pretty antsy about it actually. The fact that there are crabs crawling around my feet gets me on my toes.
Simon Cabaret Show |
We went to catch the Boy-Girl show at night and some of the transvestites there are unbelievably pretty. You seriously can't tell that they are actually men. I also learnt that they don such skimpy outfits as the tips they get from the photography session do not go to them directly and with such outfits, it is nearly impossible to stuff or hide cash anywhere on your body.
Our second day was spent at Phi Phi Island and snorkeling around Maya Bay and Khai Island. It was pretty exciting for me as I've never snorkeled in my life before and am quite a noob at it. I couldn't bite onto the mouthpiece hard enough and the salt water just kept gushing into my throats. Eww.
I like this first beach that we made a pit stop at. We took a speed boat over with 20 other people, mainly Australians, all here to escape the winter season in Aussie right now. The sand on this beach was so soft and nice and the weather was perfect.
His tattoo is too good to be true.
Some monkeys we spotted at Monkey Beach. There were many small kids trying to feed them although we were told very loudly not to.
I like this photo because it makes me look extremely tall, don't you think?
HIGHLIGHT IN PHUKET:
This chocolate banana pancake thingum is TO. DIE. FOR. Yummy in my Tummy
We had dinner at this really pretty restaurant called Tiger Inn where they had a live band playing American hits and the lighting decor was mesmerizing. Dinner was alright, the chicken was pretty tough and the pasta didn't tasted right at all. BUT. everything shall be solved with a perfect glass of mango smoothie. YUMS!
On the third day, we headed to Coral Island for parasailing and more snorkeling! I love this beach as well. It was the perfect spot to just lie around the sand and chill under the sun.
My thighs got sunburnt pretty badly as you can tell in the photos. There are like red patches on my thighs and it was really quite painful. We were so smart, we only bought aloe vera and sunblock on the 3rd day haha. I was definitely not as sunburnt as someone else...
That's me on the parasail. When it was my turn, the people literally just strapped you on and drag you to the parachute to harness you up and their instructions were as brief as 'okay you must run later when the boat moves and then pull the red flap when we ask you to pull okay okay' and before you know it, you've already lifted off the ground into the air. The view was amazing from up there though and the sudden drops that I experience up there due to extremely strong wind was SUPER FUN. I am quite the adrenaline junkie.
Anyways, the wind was so strong and when I was made to pull the red flap to cause the chute to close so I can land, the chute wouldn't budge because the wind was massive and we were facing the direction the wind was coming from. Hence, I CRASHED into the sea. hahaha. It was fun actually, but then, the chute got wet and spoilt and the person after me crashed into the sea further away from the shore. They decided to speed-boat all of us to another island where the wind conditions was better.
Resident goat on the beach went around munching on people's clothes and passing faeces everywhere.
Some underwater photos taken with my cousin's underwater digital camera.
For dinner, we went to this seafood restaurant that the hotel recommended and it was SO DISAPPOINTING. ): The food was seriously not good and for the price that we paid, I really expected more from the quality of food served there. We paid almost $100 odd for 2pax. The only tasty thing during dinner was the pineapple rice which was not even part of the seafood range and the pricey range. We walked out of the restaurant feeling very sad.
At Patong Beach, there are many things for you to see and shop for. There is also Bangla Street which is where all the night life is bustling away. It is easily accessible and there was also a Big C which is one of their largest supermarkets and we went there on the last day, ON A SCOOTER.
Rented the bike for about 5 Singapore dollars and nearly had a small accident while exiting the Big C carpark as it was a basement carpark and you had to drive UP the slope. Scary moment.
I had loads of fun in Phuket despite being slightly sunburnt. Can't wait to go back to try out their white water rafting and other sports. Bungee maybe? (:
