Caught Army Daze over the weekend in support of Tim's professional debut into the theatre scene. It was a rendition of the original Army Daze. The set was simple, sophisticated and straight to the point. Nothing too fanciful. I thought the lighting and scene changes were pretty excellent minus the fact that I could see a backstage personnel still cleaning up a spilt drink on stage when the lights came on for a split second. Typical of me to talk about the set and lighting instead of the characterization and acting. There was a whole lot of humour injected into the play, mostly Singaporean-ish jokes in dialect and what nots, making it very accessible for the family masses. Not so much of witty humour. The songs composed by Don Richmond were pretty catchy and overall, the show was very engaging. Directed by Beatrice Chia and choreographed by Jeffrey Tan, the cast is made up of some of theatre's favourite comedians such as Chua Enlai, Darius Tan, Dennis Chew (Zhou Chong Qing) and Siti Khalijah (I absolutely adore her). If you didn't catch it this time round, I've heard words that they may re-stage it at Esplanade. Not too sure about that though.
Not forgetting Chua Enlai's hilarious string of ridiculous quotes that don't make sense at all.
"We Hokkiens have a saying: When the chicken crosses the road, that is when the turtle will hatch its egg", "Recover... Relax... Because when the turtle float across the pond, that is when the bride will come home" "Recover... Relax... Because when the Monkey God rest, that is when the banana tree will be shaken"
HAHAHHAHAHA!
